Cedar gall... by marlboromaam

Cedar gall...

What started out as a knotty and round looking brown ball (often mistaken for a cone) is now looking like this. It will soon turn into an orange gelatinous blob with tentacles (very alien and strange). I've never been able to capture them at this stage before now. Aren't they weird? My eastern red cedar trees are playing host to these things. More info here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gymnosporangium_juniperi-virginianae

@kjarn LOL! No, but they do look sort of like them.

@wakelys It's pretty weird. At the last stage, it looks like some sort of sea creature.

Mother Nature knows how to use sticky to perfection. Can almost see those 'tentacles' reaching out...

@joysabin Such a strange thing! Won't seem to hurt the cedar tree, but when it hits an apple tree - destruction.

@blueberry1222 I would not touch it. It's the spores that spread.

@koalagardens Thanks!
