Weaver Hotel by mcsiegle

Weaver Hotel

On the way back from Blue Rapids, I stopped at Waterville and took a few photos of the historic Weaver Hotel. It was closed. Someday I'll stop when it's open. I purposely included the shadow in the foreground -- shade from the tree I was standing under. Any pinions as to whether it adds or detracts?
Very nice composition and beautiful structure!

I like it, and I especially like that you left the shadow in the shot!

Cool hotel! Hope you get to go in next trip!

I's a lovely building and I think the shadow adds as it softens the very light building and road.

Hi Mary, I'm your get-pushed partner this week. Fun to browse your photos! For your challenge this week, how about a self portrait in Black and White? Hope that will work for you! :)

@kareenking Thanks, Kareen. It is a very nice building )from the outside anyway_ -- not fancy, but looks appropriate to the small town. @riverlandphotos I forgot to note the hours (if they were posted). But I do plan someday to go back and see the inside.

@joydnichols @denidouble Thanks for weighing in on the shadow.

@mcsiegle Oh, the dreaded self-portrait! Good challenge. I'll see what I can do.

Personally I like the shadow, it breaks up the uniformity of the road surface and adds contrast to the hotel. Also helps reinforce image of where you are - the context.

The shadow is kind of sinister - like something is looming over the deserted hotel.

@mcsiegle i'am to be your get pushed challenge partner this week, how does a bar or venue of a band or singer in B&W with plenty of noise in the shot either put in yourself or because of the low lighting. Hope this is not to hard for you? If it is let me know and i will think of something else for you :)
Paul.

@simonpz Thanks for the opinion on the shadow. @twistergirl Thanks for the different take on it. Sinister, huh? Interesting...The shade was nice and cool where I was standing, so I never would have seen the "dark" side (excuse the pun).

@salemslot Wow, good one. I don't end up in that type of venue very often, so it will be something different. With my little camera in a dark setting, I doubt I'll have to artificially put in any noise. :-) I'll see what I can do.

@salemslot Paul, I have not forgotten the get pushed challenge you have given me. My husband has been in a production of "Pirates of Penzance" that is ending today. So NEXT weekend we will go together. Last week, Tuesday was the only day he could have gone with me, and it didn't look like there was much live music going on until the weekend, and I wasn't sure I wanted to go all by myself. So you'll get your bar/live music scene in B&W with noise a bit belately. I'll be sure to tag you when I post it.

That's fine @mcsiegle don't worry... :)
