The most boring photo in the world

So...my get pushed challenge from @stephomy was to "slow down your shutter speed and capture some blurred movement." Well, even though I don't have a way of directly setting shutter speed on my camera, I have had some very slight success in the past with artificially forcing it by setting other things. The slowest shutter speed my camera is capable of is 1 second. Anyway...I had, in the past captured some motion on spinning car wheels on the street, and I thought that would be boring to do again -- surely I could find something more interesting! I thought I'd go out to the tubes at Tuttle Creek Dam where the water is let through. If I went later in the day and set the camera at 100 ISO maybe I could get something.

It was cold. The water wasn't coming through with too great a force, and it's a really unattractive color. I didn't bring a tripod. I could see almost immediately that this was going to be a bust. But I did, gamely, take a bunch of pictures. I also turned to the gulls swooping around, hoping to catch their wings in motion. But I had trouble just catching them, period. My camera only has 4x optical zoom, so the gulls looked pretty small in all the shots, not in focus, mostly in a glide at the point at which I pressed the shutter, and half the time barely in frame. AND my fingers were getting cold taking these terrible shots. Dang!

In the end, as I was leaving, I stopped the car up near the entrance to Tuttle Creek Blvd and stood near the side of the road -- yep, you guessed it, I went back to photographing cars, only this time they were going faster than the city street where I'd captured wheels in motion...

@stephomy This is a terrible response to your challenge. See my other photo for something a bit better.

Sounds a lot like my experiences with that type of camera. Still, I wanted to push the limits of what I could do with it. I did pull off something that could be call light writing. http://365project.org/stephomy/365/2014-02-07

Ha! I am too afraid to do get pushed. Maybe in the new year.

@jess1204 It's the new year now, Jessica. Jump on in, the challenges can be fun and you get to know different people's work that you might not have before.
