Angie @angiedanielle24 gave me this get pushed challenge this week: "how about taking a photograph of some kind of public art; a statue , mural, street installation or something of that kind?" This is Johnny Kaw, who stands in our city park. He's a made up mythical figure invented for the centennial of the town (Manhattan, Kansas) -- a Paul- Bunyan-like figure who carved out the channel of the Kansas (Kaw) river and all sorts of other larger-than-life stuff. You can read more about him (if you have absolutely nothing else to do with your time) here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Kaw
I've always thought him rather ugly, but living only a block away from where he stands, he came in handy for this challenge.
I had never heard of him before and as is usual people who grow up around a legend mythical or not are not nearly as impressed with his story as those of us who didn't. thanks for sharing the link. Terrific photo of him too
I love the history behind your photo! That was exactly what I was hoping for when sending you this challenge. The statue itself is fairly strange looking but he is there for a reason and I've learnt something new today ! 😊 thank you so much
