Joyce

My get pushed challenge this week, given me by @lanikyea was to make a portrait. Good challenge for me, since I kind of dread taking pictures of people, even myself. True to form, I procrastinated until Friday when I set my camera to automatic and asked several people who came through the office if I could take their picture. This is Joyce, a student who works in our language lab. She comes in the office each morning to get the key. I got lucky and the automatic setting produced decent results in that particular interior location. I didn't want to be fiddling around trying to find the right combination of aperture, shutter speed, ISO etc to get the exposure right, while they waited for me to take their picture, as sometimes happens. I'm glad I have the manual settings, but I still have to internalize a lot of what I am learning. I wish I could focus manually... Ah, well! There's always something more or better to wish for.
@lanikyea Here's a portrait for you. One of four pictures of people I'm posting (though two are of my husband.)

@mcsiegle Another good portrait. great idea to go with auto focus and shoot when you see a good placement of subject--catching good portraits--You certainly have a good eye and I must say your challenge for get pushed 291 is well met!

A great portrait and you did really well to get out of your comfort zone!

She looks like a very good model. Maybe you should try semi-automatic and shot A instead of full auto. Then you can chose the biggest aperture and hopefully get less focus on the background (of course depending on the lens).
