This must be like a burr.
I have extension tubes that help with macro shots. I recently bought a handy clamp-on gadget, a Raynox DCR-150 Snap-On Macro Lens. It was what I used on my macro shot I posted on Saturday. All cheaper than a macro lens.

I agree with @randystreat check Amazon for inexpensive clip-on lenses. They are a blast to play with.

get a macro filter, it'll do the job. i bought a nikon macro lens a couple of years ago. i promptly returned it after a week, i didn't like it. too much to learn plus it was heavy.
