Last week I posted a picture of the weekly Pig hour (Pigmania/Pass the Pigs) including all four Kansas-based pigs now playing for the USA. Many of you will already be familiar with my vintage Pigmania pigs, Mochyn and Maiale. The two new "Pass the Pigs" pigs did not have names--until today.
One is a boy and one is a girl, which works out well, as now Mochyn will have another guy to hang with, and Maiale gets a girlfriend. Just before and during the game today, the two new pigs and I were looking for good names.
Mochyn and Maiale have international names--Welsh and Italian. So we started by looking up "Pig" in other languages as well. I suggested Slovene; "Prasa" sounded nice, and my parents' best friends were from Slovenia. But in the end we settled for Spanish—Cerdo—for the boy, and Ukrainian— свиня (Svynya)—for the girl.
But these two new pigs look so much like each other. It was embarrassing to not be able to tell Cerdo from Svynya. So I asked Svynya if she'd like to paint her nails. Yes, indeed! And, of course, Maiale wanted in on the act. I have a lot of old nail polish that I never use. I chose five colors and painted the nails on my left hand as samples. I started putting a plain, bright red on my thumb, but they nixed that straight off. Too old-fashioned and too plain. They wanted sparkle! OK, sparkle...
Svynya chose silver, and Maiale went with an orange gold. Pigs being pigs, I knew they'd ruin the polish right off if I didn't make them practice their razorbacks until their nails dried. Whew! Glad that's finished. I had used that nail polish to paint pine cones years ago for a "Country Christmas" sale the Deep Creek club was putting on. I think I fried a whole bunch of brain cells with the fumes doing it. I never paint my nails and ought to get rid of the stuff, but I'm like those two girls. I just like the sparkle. Should I collect more pine cones?
@grammyn@wakelys@30pics4jackiesdiamond I just hope this won’t affect their ability to do a good hoofer/trotter. The nail polish might be a bit slippery and make it harder to “stick” the landing. Fingers crossed.
@mirroroflife Pete I’m going to have to give you a rain check on the light painting challenge you gave me. I’m having a hard time wrapping my mind around it and finding the time to do something good. My two or three other attempts have had pretty unimpressive results. Apologies. When I DO try it, I’ll tag you.
