The Dinosaurs decide to help with Wales Week

The photo is one that appeared early in my project in 2013 http://365project.org/mcsiegle/365/2015-01-13 At that time the dinos were playing with the Toys on 365. The theme that week was dragons.

Right now I've gotten myself involved in an initiative called "Wales Week" (actually more like two weeks -- surrounding St. David's Day on March 1st) So I've planned a couple of modest things here in Manhattan and am trying to publicize other Welsh-related things happening in the rest of Kansas, on a Facebook page and Twitter account set up for "Wales Week Kansas."

There are Wales Week participants all around the globe. For more information on Wales Week Worldwide: https://walesweek.world/

Since the Dinosaur Chronicles play out primarily on 365, I decided I should put their Wales Week stuff here as well as Facebook. Here's what I wrote on the FB page:

When the dinosaurs heard about Wales Week, they dragged out this old photo of the Apatosaurus family meeting Y Ddraig Goch – the Red Dragon of Wales. One of the Apatosaurus youngsters recalled, with nostalgia, how dazzled they had been with his size. He was stupendous, simply enormous!

The Plesiosaurus broke into the trip down memory lane with this observation on St. David’s Day, “Saint Patrick gets all the press! It’s totally not fair…” A chorus of agreement erupted among the assembled.

One of the Neanderthal Men pointed out that St. David’s Day IS observed all around the world. “Yeah,” said the Dimetrodon, “but go into any store around that time and look at all the shamrocks. The Dollar Store next to Hobby Lobby has all sorts of cheap green stuff – Leprechauns, pipes, hats. Where are the daffodils and leeks? Where is a Welsh flag with Y Ddraig Goch on it? You can’t even get that in Hobby Lobby.” "No Welsh stuff.” agreed the Trachodon.

“Except maybe daffodils…” ventured the Mosasaurus. “True,” said the Stegosaurus, thoughtfully, and with rare pan-Celtic insight, mused that St. Piran was also getting the short end of the stick. “Where can you easily get Cornish swag for March 5th, except Cornwall?”

“But,” said the Allosaurus, “we’re talking about Wales Week now. We should help!” The Rhamphorhynchus put in his two cents, “If we can get some photo shoots scheduled between now and St. David’s Day, we can be part of Wales Week Kansas. We live in Kansas, after all, and you don’t have to be strictly Welsh to make Welsh noise.”

They all agreed they were good at making noise. And maybe could help make Welsh cakes in preparation for Gwen Colgrove’s presentation. They were certainly good at EATING Welsh cakes. How hard could it be to make them? And at that they all made for the kitchen, with the Triceratops Twins in the lead.

* Wales Week Kansas has accepted the dinosaurs’ offer to assist in the lead up to St. David’s Day and, after very careful consideration, has agreed to let them help make Welsh cakes. After all, we are going to need a good plenty for the crowd we are hoping to attract to the Riley County Genealogical Society’s program on Sunday, February 23rd at 2:00 pm at Meadowlark Hills. Free to the public. Gwen Colgrove from the Great Plains Welsh Heritage Project in Wymore, NE will be giving a presentation and THERE WILL BE WELSH CAKES FOLLOWING THE PRESENTATION!

Oh, excuse us, I guess we were shouting there…But it WAS good Welsh noise, was it not?
Great narrative. Shall follow with great intrrest

I'm not familiar with this celebration. Probably because the only people from Wales I know are on this site. I hope the dinosaurs enjoy themselves.
