A friend challenged my to try more b&w, something that I'm not really comfortable with. I'd love your feedback.
Better on black.
I like it. I've recently been experimenting in b&w and I find that sometimes upping the contrast a bit adds some drama.

Most time of my life I did had to do it in B+W. so now I prefer colors unless the pic. need it.

I think black and white really works in this picture.

google recently purchased nik and is offering all of their software for free - the best of b & w is nik's silver efex - which enables you to choose various b & w films - and then adjust for contrast etc. https://www.google.com/nikcollection/

Nice shot

Perfect for black and white, it really makes the scene look more bleak with the choppy ocean.

Awesome picture and perspective.

Did you shot in bw or convert afterwards. Converting afterwards and tweaking a bit can give strong tones. But it is a nice shot.

@joansmor thanks Joan, I shot in colour, but it was a pretty grey day, so I converted to b&w. I haven't ventured in to Photoshop yet, but I think I'll have to go that way at some stage 😀

I don't think the image works well in monochrome and that is without seeing the coloured file. I am not sure how you are processing in black and white, but one of the things most people do when they first start trying it is that they just change to grayscale or desaturate. If you are using the industry standard Photoshop, and or Lightroom you can do what is called channel mixing so that you enhance, lighten and darken different parts of the picture. The choice of image is essential. Try to find ones with lots of strong varied contrast, maybe diagonals or stripes so that you enhance what is already there. If you use software plugins they can really help you be creative in monochrome. The two best are Topaz B&W Effects and Nik Silver Effex, that latter being free! Hope you don't mind the critique?

@marshwader Thanks, I don't do much editing, so I haven't signed up for Photoshop yet. I will probably need to look at doing so before much longer :)
