Devil's Island, in the distance, Halifax harbour, NS

The name originated from an early French merchant and was first spelled Deville's Island.

The first permanent settlement on this 12 hectare island was established in 1830, and by 1850 there were three houses and a school. By 1901 the settlement had grown to 18 houses. Today the lighthouse remains.

Great glittery picture. I liked the story of the rise and fall of a community.

Beautiful composition! My eye begins at the dark rock and its reflection in the foreground and travels through to the lighthouse and sky beyond. I love the sparkles on the water and the history. Such a pretty picture, Nova. I can see this in a frame on the wall!
