Dianne's neice and nephew accompanied us on our walk today. We were walking and talking merrily when all of a sudden, Nick startled this poor little Garter Snake from his sunning spot, which led to a very animated and high pitched scream from me. I scared the three of them (and the snake) more than the snake scared me, which of course, kept us laughing through the rest of our walk. As you can see I was able to conquer my phobia enough to snap a picture for 365- but at a very comfortable and safe distance for me!
@potsbypam Thank you Pam- you're very kind- but please notice how far away the snake is and the fact the I did not get any closer- even with my little point and shoot zoom! And as soon as I was done taking the picture, I walked quickly away!!
@digitalrn@bkbinthecity Thank you Rick and bkb. He was very wary of us and wasn't moving unless he sensed us moving toward him. Well, the kids were moving toward him, I was moving in whatever direction led me away from him!
Nine or ten years ago, I met up with a Plains Rattlesnake who coiled up in an apprehensive pose for me and my camera. It didn't even lash out at me. The key is to approach snakes VERY slowly as to not startle them.
@yomamabinrotten@wdement Thanks for the view Wyoming Tree Planter- wow, if I came upon a rattle snake I can honestly say I would not be brave enough to take a picture, but this little Garter Snake I knew was completely harmless. Wendy- we had a bat in the house once too. Yeah- it's a toss up between that and snakes as to which I like least! I hope you were able to get the bat out.
