In the past whenever we've had a day with a sky as blue as today's, I've always taken a shot of the clock tower in color. So it was interesting to see how the black and white format changed the feel of the picture completely. I'm not really pleased with this- I think it's slightly crooked and I forgot to straighten it before I put the frame on and saved it. The sun was so bright this morning I could not see the screen, so I was "shooting blind" hence the slightly off-balance look. One thing I do like about this lovely piece of architecture though is that since we've had the clock repaired, the tower painted and the roof given a much needed face lift, the whole structure has taken on an air of new-found dignity.
@kerristephens Thank you Kerri! (I hope your tests went well- missed you here!) @glendq Thank you Glenda! @digitalrn Thank you Rick! @pflaume Thank you Lisa! It's all wood. Our church was built in 1825. @maggiemae Thank you Maggie! Yes, I was on my way to the Sunday School class we teach- teens.
Thank you Paula!
Thank you Carole! It is just a tiny bit off straight- needs to be adjusted to the right. I know most people don't see it, but I do, so it will always drive me a bit crazy- but not enough to go back and fix it. hehe
Beautiful shot of this clock tower. The B & W really brings out the contrast and the details. I use a wide brim hat (when I remember to take it with me) to shade my camera so I can see the photo subject better. It is difficult to do this when the subject is over my head.
@summerfield Thanks Vikki- I did have one very early on in my first year- Jan. 30, 2011 if you want to see it. I'm not sure how to post the link. @daisy thank you Kathryn! It's so cold and breezy here, I think a wide-brimmed hat would have blown away- but I have done that before. It's a good idea. @henrir thank you Henri! @mikegifford Will do- thanks for the heads-up. @sparkleplenty1 Thank you Joyce- it's fun to watch that vane on a windy day. It goes all over the place! @smithak Thank you Smitha! I'm enjoying this since I have never done more than a week of them at one time. @jackie8 Thank you Jackie! I did do some minor cropping but it was only to take out some of the base because I felt the black shingles were pulling the picture down. @prttblues Thank you Bev!
@automaticslim Thanks Andy- and apparently you can go up in there but my stomach flutters just thinking about how high it is! lol Actually there are reports that it has occupants- bats- but since they've done the restoration work on it, I don't know if they're still in there or not. Might have to find out...

i love clock towers, and when i find one, i always take a picture. i could probably do a month of clock towers, but you'd be so bored.
