I met up with Nada at the Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center in Chatham NJ today. We had so much fun walking through the area and photographing the flora and fauna. The Great Swamp is not entirely swampland but rather a mixture of marshes, meadows, dry woods and brush-covered swamps. It is the intermingling of these four habitats that gives the Great Swamp its unique character, allowing the swamp to support a wide variety of plant and animal life. As visitors walk along trails and over boardwalks, they can observe plants varying in size from the tiny duckweed to the towering red oak. I believe this beauty is called Common Mullein but I'm not absolutely certain since the flowers aren't in full bloom yet.
Thank you so much to everyone who is still commenting on my pictures while my world is upside down! Jeff and I are learning that Siberian Larch (our new floor) does not act or react like the typical oak or wood floors that people put in their homes. It's still drying! Add to the fact that I've had an extremely busy week and you get one 365er who is VERY behind on her own viewing and commenting! My profuse apologies as I try to get into some sort of rhythm or pattern going in my world.
I remember the director of the nature camp where I worked as a teen ager telling us the story of how the settlers dipped these stalks in tallow and used them as lanterns. Great angle.
yay! you had a 365 meet up! it was quite fun, wasn't it? it's different when you're taking photos with someone who appreciates you stopping and sneaking and nosing at something before finally taking a shot. lovely details on this beauty! nice shot, ann.
@summerfield Thanks Vikki! Two more meet-ups on my list: You & Bev. Thinking that both will occur sometime this summer. The next one is June 1 where I will meet Rick Schies at Hawk Mountain. Looking forward to all of them! And of course Nada and I will be doing more too.
