Christmas on the Road 1

Christmas felt so different this year. Not in a bad way though. It signified to me a change in my life. One I did not really want or expect, but will grow accustomed to in the coming years. While this Christmas signified a big change for me, it was even greater for Christopher and his family as they celebrated their last Christmas in Michigan. In a few short weeks they'll be moving to Texas. But back to my day- we left Michigan around 1 pm and ended up sharing our Christmas meal at a Panera Bread at a Turnpike rest area! Oddly surreal as there were only a small handful of people in a place that is usually bustling with travelers. Still, it was fun to be "just the two of us" and to remember the fun we had on our visit. I hope all of you had a wonderful day too!

Unfortunately I brought home a cold- my head aches, my joints ache- and right now I feel like there's not enough cold medicine in the world to cure me! LOL Well, they're showing another Christmas movie on the Hallmark Channel, so I'm off to bundle up by the woodstove and watch it. I'll be back to commenting tomorrow!
love your processing ... clean lines and great colors ... fav

I hope you feel better soon. Did you spend Christmas day on the road? I can't quite tell from the date of your photo above. I hope you had a lovely day whatever you did.

Nice shot, Ann. Cool processing. It looks like a painting.

Love the water colour effect here - gives a sense on emptiness. I find Christmas a strange time when there aren't children and lots of family around, as you say, different ...

Awesome shot

Hope you're feeling better Ann. Thank you for your advice on my efforts with the glass chandelier. It hung over the main staircase in the hotel where where my son and his partner were spending Christmas so I grabbed a few quick shots after we'd had an amazing meal. I think you're right about the ISO I could do with going back when it's quieter and taking a tripod. Perhaps they would let me in if I asked nicely! Otherwise I'll have to save up for a meal!!

It looks very desolate. I like how the colour seems to pop.

I love how you did this one.

Really cool image, clean and uncluttered.

Hope you feel better. Your story says that it isn't all about fancy trappings to have a good holiday it's about being with special people.

Now I know why this is familiar. It's in Ohio... You made it look even more surreal than it does in real life. Hope you're better soon.

Wonderful processing! Hope you conquer your cold soon

The aqua sort of blue in background is so nice.

This image is more like a painting! It reminds me of a famous one of a man in a bar alone. Memory escapes me, and then I read your narrative. I hope all is well. I had a nice Christmas, but a very different one--had to adapt and shift for others. Merry Xmas. And can't believe you are heading into tear 5. HUUUUUGE. :)

@nicolecampbell yes, Christmas day was spent driving from Michigan to Pennsylvania.
@yaorenliu yes- I have a special tea with that in it and have been drinking quite a bit!
@francoise Yup- Ohio!
@darylo Thanks Daryl! I have to laugh at reaching 5. I wasn't sure I'd get through year 1 when I started!

@olivetreeann - how many hours did that take Ann? Is this something you are going to have to do every year?
December 29th, 2014
Wonderful shot and processing. Artistic! A fav. Hope you are feeling better by now.

@nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole! Actually this was the last trip we will make to visit them in Michigan as they will be moving to Texas in January. The drive to Michigan takes us 8 1/2 hours. We drive from one side of Pennsylvania to the other and about 2/3 the way across the state of Ohio along Lake Erie before heading north into Michigan. They will be moving to north/central Texas which would take 2-3 days of driving depending on how many hours you are willing to drive each day. You can also fly of course but that can be expensive. So is staying in a hotel each night you drive, so I'm not sure how many times we will see them while they are living there. )o:

@daisymiller Thank you Daisy! Yes, I'm feeling much better now. Still a bit stuffy, but able to sleep and no lingering cough.

@mhatch Thanks Mark- it was interesting enough on its own, but putting in a painting style just added a little life to it.
