I am so excited to have a pair of Cardinals visiting my feeder this winter. I am still getting used to the way my tripod works. (I haven't gotten the knack of tightening the camera in position just yet!) So this shot was a bit on the blurry side. So I gave it a water color application and I liked the result.
@nanalisarocks Thanks Lisa! I really like this one. It's a cross between top of the line and sturdy. What's tricky for me is figuring out which way the knobs tighten! I keep unscrewing when I think I'm making it tighter! But actually what I should be doing is focusing on a spot and waiting for the birds to enter it. So that will be my self imposed challenge each time I get it out over the next few days.
Thank you sooooo much everyone!! You've made my day with all those comments and favs which has made Mr. Cardinal my second shot on the Popular Page this week- and it's only Tuesday! (Drip, Drip, Drip was on there briefly too.) I'm off to a camera club meeting and will be back later to check on your shots, but once again, I just wanted to say thanks to each and every one of you!!
I like the water paint effect a lot and love cardinals. We have them here year around. I personally like the female the most, even though the males are brighter!!! This is a great shot!! FAV!
Fantastic close shot and you also captured the pose that is so noble and dignified, we just have a priest in NZ promoted by the Pope to Cardinal, that is a novelty in NZ.
Cardinals are supposed to bring reminders of loved ones no longer living. I always think of special memories when I see one and since they don't live here yours is the first I've seen this winter
@mrssmith203 Thank you Carla! @daisymiller Thank you Daisy! @yaorenliu Thank you Yao! We have the "religious" cardinals too- and a couple athletic teams named "The Cardinals" as well. Very confusing without the context of a conversation! @neatz Thank you Anita! @vickisfotos Thank you Vicki! We have the Blue Jays too. They are a bit noisy but their coloring is very pretty.
@pandorasecho Thank you Dixie! And thanks for the fav! That is an interesting association which in some ways could be true of me as each time I see them I think of my Dad and his love for bird watching. He also taught me a little trick of kissing the top of my hand to attract them. The "smack" sounds a lot like their "chip" call.
This is beautiful, Ann! Saw it on both the trending and popular pages--well deserved. Fav. Oh, and tripods still make me nervous, with that expensive camera sitting up there....
Great shot, Ann. He's so beautiful. I love the plush red color. Cool processing. I don't use a tripod when taking bird shots because you never know if they are going to move on you. And they can be really fast, too! One minute you take the shot and the next they are gone from where they were! Fav
@taffy Thank you Taffy! @pandorasecho Thanks Dixie! It probably works on other birds too. I'm thinking a Catbird might be attracted to it. And maybe Chickadees? It's always fun to see if it works. @khawbecker Thank you Khawbecker! @summerfield Thank you Vikki! It was pretty exciting to see it there as heavily processed as it is. @gratefulness Thank you Sandi! @eudora Thank you Diane and thank you so much for the fav! They have a tripod out there now that has feet like those "Hurri-canes" you see on tv. I didn't get one of those as they were very expenses. But you can definitely see how nothing could tip over on those feet! @prttblues Thanks Bev! I've had a few birders tell me the best way to shoot is to pick a spot, focus on that, set the camra to burst and attach the remote shutter. Then put some peanuts or other tidbits on the spot and wait until your subject comes into view. I'm going to try that at some point. And thanks so much for the fav! @bill_fe Thanks Bill! @cimes1 Thank you Carole! Pretty happy about that!

Thank you Colleen!
Thank you Linda!
@moviegal1 Thank you Kerri and thank you so much for the fav!
Really, that was a quickie and only made interesting by processing it with the Orton effect.
@kerristephens Thank you Kerri!
