January 1st begins my sixth year on 365. Goodness, the time does fly! Every time I think of the number 6, I think of a book of A. A. Milne poems my mother gave to me (presumably on my 6th birthday) bearing the above title. I pulled it out today thinking it must contain a poem with the same title, but no! Instead Milne uses the phrase in his introduction. Here's an excerpt:
When you are reciting poetry, which is a thing we never do, you find sometimes, just as you are beginning, that Uncle John is still telling Aunt Rose that if he can't find his spectacles he won't be able to hear properly, and does she know where they are; and by the time everybody has stopped looking for them, you are at the last verse, and in another minute they will be saying, "Thank-you, thank-you," without really knowing what it was all about. So, the next time, you are more careful; and just before you begin you say, "Er--h'r'm!" very loudly, which means, "Now then, here we are"; and everybody stops talking and looks at you; which is what you want...well, this bit I am writing now, called the Introduction, is in reality the er-h'r'm of the book...What I want to explain in the Introduction is this. We have been nearly three years writing this book. We began when we were very young...and now we are six...So we want you to know that the name of the book doesn't mean that this is about us being six all the time, but that it is about as far as we've got at present.
My first five years on 365 were somewhat of an "a-hem" for me- an introduction to possibilities of photography as expression and learning basic techniques to accomplish that. I haven't mastered anything by far, but now I am six! And it's fun to look at how far I've come at present. I thank you for your encouragement and friendship along the way. It has made this creative journey so much fun and I'm looking forward to what 2016 will bring. So onward I go!
Wow six years! That's impressive and exciting! And do you enjoy it as now? I'm already thinking I don't want to end my journey with 365 when my year ends... I have so enjoyed seeing everyones photos and people from all around the world!! :) I'm glad our paths crossed :)
@bkbinthecity Thank you Brian! Looking forward to more shots from Edmonton too! @janewinfrey Thanks Jane! Yes, I enjoy it as much now as I did when I started- maybe even more now that I have the T3i. @pandorasecho Thank you Dixie!
Big congratulations Ann!!! It always feel great to get to this point! Looks like we started around the same time because I'll be six in February. Looking forward to your next batch of photos for the coming year! :)
Oh mhy! Six years. I've just started my fourth a week ago... Was thinking of taking a break and then my husband gave me a new camera for Christmas. Don't dare now.
Thank you Katy, Chris, Anita, Nicole, Nina and Suzie! I'm so thankful for your faithful views and comments and congratulations to each one of you on your milestones as well!
I don't remember this introduction but isn't it just delightful! One never grows too old for these books! They are part of our world as a child and are constantly in our world at present! You really are amazing having done all those years here!
@maggiemae Thank you Maggie! It doesn't seem too amazing to me as I am typically a very loyal person- and I have grown to love so many people here even though we've never met! At the end of year two I considered stopping- for about 2 seconds- and realized it is now part of my life and will probably always be- a happy conclusion!
What a great achievement especially given the amount of photos you have taken in the time. I have really appreciated your comments and suggestions you have made on my shots and love to see yours. I have actually been on the site for four years but just don't get to post much now. However I know I have learnt and still enjoy the site. Belated happy new year to you.
@jennywren thank you Jen! I'm always glad to leave feedback and receive it too. One thing I learned early on from some of the best here is "it's your project" so posting when you do and how you do it is completely up to you. There are no 365 police! I always add that it should be fun and not a burden. So thanks for taking the time to stop by when you're here!
Wow, I cannot believe you are starting year 6, what a massive achievement Ann. I love your extract from Milne and I am looking forward to seeing what it brings for you. Sorry I haven't commented for a while but I have been away without much internet. I have missed most of your end of year shots.
Yay!! Congratulations on make it to year 6 of your project! What an amazing achievement!!! I always enjoy the simple fun you have with each and every photo. Looking forward to seeing what tis year brings. :)
