Our second to last stop brought us to the "newest" of the Lehigh County bridges. Schlicher's Covered Bridge is sometimes called the "Deer Pen Bridge" because it is surrounded by the Trexler-Lehigh County Game Preserve which was established as a reservation in 1906 to raise and protect bison, elk and deer. Deer can often be seen grazing along the road near the bridge (but we did not see them). The builder of the structure is unknown and its name probably came from local landowners. Originally built in 1882 to cross the Jordan Creek, it's also the shortest of the covered bridges on the tour. It was rebuilt in 1995 and now has stone abutments reinforced with concrete, red vertical siding and a slate roof. We loved the reflection on this one.
