Milkweed Pod by olivetreeann

Milkweed Pod

Last fall when we visited the family in Batavia, I had gathered some Milkweed pods for their seeds so that I could plant some on my property to attract butterflies. Yesterday I took advantage of the warm weather and planted the seeds. I thought the remnant of the pod was quite delicate and made a nice subject for a black and white photo.
Well captured

This is beautiful shot! Love the B&W and the simplicity of the shot. Nice detail, too.

Lovely b&w photo Ann. I'm not sure if I have seen a Milkweed plant.

Wow! I remember we had milkweed at home all over the place and we had these too. Never liked that stuff much but it was fun to break it open and let the 'milk' drain out of it stems. :)

I have never heard of milkweed

@eudora Thank you so much Diane! I loved the curl of the stem in particular.
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole! Hopefully I will have a whole crop to photograph by mid-summer!
@raejae Thanks Raejae! It's an interesting plant and I'm hoping to attrach Monarch butterflies with it as it is a favorite of theirs both in the caterpillar and butterfly stages.
@peterdegraaff Thanks Peter. The plant is quite prevalent around here. It gets its name from the fact that you can break open the stem and discover a milky like liquid. They are a favorite food source for Monarch butterflies and I'm hoping that my seeds will produce plants for pleasure and photo opps!
@summerfield Thanks Vikki- it's a lovely plant and I hope mine will grow so I can get more shots of them.
@inertie Thank you Inertia. The wood is a railing on our back deck. It is in need of a good scraping and restain. My husband keeps saying, "I need to get that done" and I'm secretly hoping he won't get to it because it makes such a great backdrop for shots like this!

What a great thing to do! I hope you have some great plants so you can get the butterflies to come to your home.
