Farewell Picnik!! by olivetreeann

Farewell Picnik!!

Dear Picnik,
The day I discovered you was the day my adventures in processing truly began. Thanks to you I discovered the joys of sharpening, hue and saturation, cropping and covering up even the blurriest of photos with all sorts of creative effects. I always enjoyed the moments while I waited for you to fire up. You would paint rainbows, pack sandwiches and fly kites in those otherwise boring moments when nothing was happening on the screen. Thanks to you I learned that posterizing something can make even the most common objects look like they walked out of a gallery in SoHo and that the Orton effect makes even the most impish child appear to be an angel. And what about that neon effect? If it wasn't for that wonderful invention my teenage niece would not have "the coolest personalized poster EVER!!!" for Christmas this year! But most of all I will never forget the first day I hit that Hypnotic button and burst out laughing at the results. Whenever I hated a shot, all I had to do was slap that effect on it and it was love. Oh Picnik, you will be gone in a few mere hours, but I will never forget you! So, farewell my dear friend! May you rest in photographic processing peace.

Forever your fan,
Ann H. LeFevre
Cool processing

@httpgeffed Thanks Colleen. I was actually going to post a flower picture but then I saw the post by Paula Brumbe on the homepage and changed my mind. A tribute to Picnik was definitely in order! So I uploaded the picture to Picnik and ran it through my 3 favorite effects: Hypnotic, Posterize and Neon.

What a beautiful photographic tribute to the now defunct picnik. I don't know why these sites are closing.... We lost slide.com a couple months ago and that was a great site! I lost my best slide shows so now I have to redo them at another site .... very pretty picture, Ann.

Wow, what a send off. Nicely put.

i was so hesitant to use picnik, but i was convinced by one of my follower friends who loved to do colour selection. then i saw a photo of flowers by lesley allen and she framed it in picnik's mirror frame. there was no going back since then that i had to pay for the premium to get the mirror framing. this is lovely, ann,

@prttblues - slide.com closed shop, too? ooops, i have my alumni group's slide show in there! did they give any notice? because i surely didn't get any. thank you, bev.

:( I will miss picnik. . . what editing site are you using now?
April 20th, 2012
@bruni Thanks Bruni!
@prttblues Thanks Bev!
@digitalrn Thanks Rick!
@summerfield Thanks Vikki!
@pandorasecho Thank you Dixie! And thank you for the fav!!
@tklein Far out Tina!
@kimmistephens Thanks Kimmi! I am mainly using Picmonkey and iPiccy. And when I want to get really creative I've been using BeFunky- that's the one that makes the photos look like oil paintings. You might enjoy some of their effects for your Duckie series.

Thank you all for enjoying my send off. I will miss Picnik in some ways, but thankfully I'm enjoying the new sites I've found too. So, I'll move on with fond remembrances.

Hear hear! I am getting on with Picmonkey but will miss the so-easy-to-use layout of Picnik. I haven't found any sandbox effects yet, this was my favourite... wish I did a final one last night. This is super.

@filsie65 Thank you Phil! Picmonkey is pretty good. And now that Picnik is done, I have a feeling more will show up on Picmonkey- especially some of those sandbox effects.
@sangwann Thanks Dione!
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole!
@simster Thanks Simmy!

So cleverly written.....I swear, you are a genius ;-) Very lovely composition, too...just beautiful! So glad that picmonkey is now connected to 365, because it is so much like picnik and easy to use.
April 20th, 2012
@cimes1 Thank you Carole- yes I think it is although I've had a few people write that it's not as easy! I like it just as much as Picnik and hope they will resurrect some of my favorites there.

very nice! sounds like a real poem:)
April 20th, 2012
@woot Thanks Davide! It was a bit of silliness, but a fun way to say good-bye!
April 20th, 2012
Love your caption! I am mourning the loss of Picnik too. This weekend I am going to get acquainted with PicMonkey.
April 20th, 2012
@deniseinindy Thanks Denise! Try iPiccy too- they've got collages and the ever-loved by many "mirror frame".

Great tribute to Picnik, I never used the program, after seeing some of the results, thinking I should of tried it.
April 21st, 2012
@rhubbard Thanks Rich! Well, if you do feel like dabbling with this you can now try iPiccy (it has the posterize and neon effect) and Picmonkey (which has the posterize and a few other interesting ones). I don't think anyone has put in the hypnotic (kaleidoscope) effect yet. It is fun to process but I'm always watching myself so that I don't grow too dependent on it!
