Garden Spider by olivetreeann

Garden Spider

Looks like the spider web by my front door has a new tenant (although yesterday's gale force thunder and lightning storm may have done him in). I caught him in the act of eating lunch after my swim yesterday. As I was uploading the shot I thought it might also work for the movie "Die Hard" as I sure being caught and asphyxiated in a spider web is certainly not a pleasant way to go.
Nice shot! When I first saw this little guy I thought of Batman 'cuz he's got that "mask" on!!

Lovely little face as usual with a spider! I felt this creeping on my neck yesterday and slapped it hard - found it was a squashy spider about this size! Yuk - should have aimed the camera at my neck!

@wenbow Thanks Wendy! He was very active and every time I moved the camera, he moved his dinner away from me!

He is scary looking, but what a great shot. Love how the background tones complement his coloring.

Great close-up shot.

Great capture and excellent closeup . Those storms wreak havoc on spider webs. We lost our "Charlotte" a few days after I posted my shot a few weeks ago :-(

@dmariewms Thanks Marie!
@nancyperry Thanks Nancy!
@sarasdadandmom Thanks Terry! Yes, and he was quite protective of it too. Whenever I moved the camera, he picked it up and carried it to a different part of the web!
@nadaa Thanks Nada! Neither am I but when the web is right at my front door, I put my dislike of them aside and take the shot!
@kimmistephens Thanks Kimmi! I hope I identified him correctly!
@salza Thanks Sally!
@sangwann Thanks Dione!
@cimes1 Thanks Carole! Yes, we had a big, windy rain storm the day after I took this shot and the whole web is gone now. So is this fellow- probably moved to a safer spot under the deck and not by the door!

Good capture. I never like spiders right at my doorway.
July 26th, 2012
@woot Thanks Davide! Well, he's really smaller than this version appears.
@daisy Thanks Kathryn! At first I was going get rid of him, but then realized he helps to keep misquitoes et al pests there so, I let him stay!
