For the Just 4 August word of the day: nailed. I'd say this little hook nailed it. Bumped up the exposure, (way up!) added in a little shadow to restore some of the detail on the hook and then "burned" the hook a little bit more.
After processing it, I realized this is a nice foil to my color shot in the main album. This shot also has lines in it- one horizontal, one vertical and one slightly skewed. When I pushed the exposure to high key, the two walls and ceiling were barely visible, but still visible enough so that the differences in tone separate them from one another. The silvery hook is the darkest end of this tonal spectrum and the hint of its shadow just barely introduces you to the mid-range. Although it's not a black and white, the tonal quality of this shot makes it appear to be one. So there you have it- a monochromatic picture that features a contrast of tones and an intensity of light that reveals and defines lines, shapes, textures, and perspective just as Patterson described.
@twr Thanks Timothy- not a bad idea, but I have a nice oil painting that I inherited from my grandmother that hangs there. However, there's a wall in the back room it might look good on! @kerristephens Thank you Kerri! @fullcircle Thank you Cindy! He is- he's been waiting for his picture to come back since May! @photo_mum Thank you Pauline! @digitalrn Thank you Rick! @sarasdadandmom Thank you Terry! @nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole! lol They say necessity is the mother of invention, well, I'd say laziness is its kissing cousin! I didn't feel like pulling out the can that my assortment of odd nails and things, so I just walked up to the wall and took this shot! @taffy Thanks Taffy! If I didn't have a very special painting that went here, I might just do that ! @daisy Thank you Kathryn!
