The center of spiritual life on the Dartmouth campus is the Rollins Chapel. It was dedicated in 1885 and is designed in the Romanesque architectural style. It is constructed with pink granite and red sandstone and through the years it has seen many changes but the most recent renovations have returned the structure to its original plan while accommodating the growing needs of a diverse college community. Bev thought I would enjoy photographing this beautiful stone church and she was right! Some of the carvings were stunning and if I'd realized at the time that you could go in, I would have popped in to take some pictures of the stained glass windows too. But when it came to posting a shot which depicted what struck me most that day, it had to be this one. I was really fascinated with the way the shadows fell across the steps and the patterns which formed as the fell across the risers.
i was looking at this yesterday and i couldn't quite figure out what it was. but i was about to leave so had to log off and just thought of coming back to it just now. and just now i figured out it's the railing and shadows. very smart to have spotted this. the pattern created is really stunning. and mind blowing :-) very nice, ann.
Great shadow shot, Ann! I was wondering what you were shooting! I wish I'd known we could have gone in, too! That just means you will have to come back up no matter what is all! And we can spend another day because I still have lots of photo spots! :D Well done on this, Ann! The texture of the steps is perfect! :)
@prttblues Thanks Bev! I know Debbie would love to do it again! I will have to get a job or sell some of my photos but it would be fun to go again! @vesna0210 Thanks Vesna!
