Does your church tell a story about the Dogwood,Ann?When I was a little girl I remember a story in Sunday school...that the cross was made from Dogwood. And then the ( white) flowers symbolized the cross and developed red at the tips to symbolize blood. The stamens were supposed to be the crown of thorns. This image and your commentary brought this back to mind,Beautiful.
My goodness, your blooming season is weeks behind ours. A lovely rich color. It is fun to see your pictures -- like revisiting the flowers of Virginia!
Thank you to all and apologies for the mass reply! I'm in the middle of a very busy week but hope to get caught up soon! In the meantime, thank you for all the favs, wonderful comments and for being the wonderful people that you are!
@mzzhope Yes- lovely story. I think I posted a shot last year or the year before when I included it. @pandorasecho As far as I know (and I've ever seen) they come in white and red (which is more like a pink). @allie912 It was a very long and cold winter... here comes the sun!
I also like the contrasting colours.
