It has been fun to look at some of the beautiful churches I've photographed through the years this week. I'm already thinking about what to do next week but have no idea what I'll come up with! But for today, there's no problem with picking a special shot. This is the sanctuary of the church I grew up in- The First Presbyterian Church of Caldwell, NJ. I sang in choirs here, participated in Youth Sunday programs, was baptized here, received my first Bible for reciting Psalm 100 here, married here and had my sons baptized here with my father assisting as the elder. I've said good-bye to special people here after they've left this world for a better place; the most significant being my own mother. So while the sanctuary appeared empty back in April of 2013 when I stopped in to take pictures of the stained glass windows, it was full of life-long memories for me. I stood there for awhile just taking in all the things I'm so thankful for- and especially remembering the talented organists who played to the glory of God on those pipes. There is nothing like Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor on an organ like this!! And while my life has moved on from this beautiful place in a number of ways, it is still a treasured part of who I am and what I've come to be.
Thank you Allison, Rick, Kerri, Maggie, Frank, Pam, Brian, Phoebe, Amy, Joyce, Suse and Pyrrhula!
@frankhymus The pulpit is actually blocking our view of the console- but even then there is a partition (you can see the chairs in front of it) between the front platform and the choir loft. It is quite beautiful in itself. If I remember correctly- two or three keyboards, two rows of stops, foot pedals and other foot operated stops too. While I was in college some major renovations were done on it, the bulk of the funding was given my grandmother (Dad's side) in memory of my grandfather and the plaque designating that is still on the side of the organ.
