I spent the day at the Garlic Festival helping out at the Pocono Photography Club's display. We were right across the way from the main stage and enjoyed listening to live music coming from the stage. At one point the musicians took a break for the "Garlic Eating Competition". The winner would be crowned King or Queen (depending on who won). The competition required each contestant to stuff as much garlic into their mouth in 30 seconds, chewing and swallowing as they went along. Just before the 30 seconds was up, they could stuff as much garlic in their mouth and then had 30 more seconds to chew and swallow, but if anything was left in their mouth, they were disqualified. During the first 30 seconds they could drink a beverage (water or soda) but during the second 30 seconds, they couldn't. There were 3 ladies who were competing and 3 men. It sounded quite entertaining from the cheers and the announcer's "play by play" emceeing. In the end, a Garlic King was crowned and he was paraded around the grounds in Dixie-land style complete with a Rag-time band. I don't remember exactly how much garlic he consumed, but let's just say, I wouldn't want to go home with him that night! He did have a grand time dancing through the crowds though- and as you can see, he was quite pleased with himself!
He does look quite pleased with himself! I notice no one around him though and no congratulatory kisses either! Fabulous choice to use SC to highlight him!
@allie912 Thanks Allison- yes, I've heard that's true. Some people even smell like garlic when they sweat the next few days after consuming a lot of garlic. @thistle Thank you Joyce! @nanderson Thank you Nancy! Oh, that's too bad. We don't consume a lot of it, but I can now tell the difference in flavor between that which is in the supermarket and that which is sold at the farmer's market. And I think a little goes a long way! @janiskay Thank you Janice! @grammyn Thank you Katy! No, I didn't see too many people rushing up to him! @jfitzroy50 Thanks Jim!
The original shot was quite busy, but I was too far away to truly compose the shot. So sc was a great option to declutter and bring out the focus on "the king".
@skstein Thanks Sandy! I wish I could remember how many ounces they gave them to start with. But I'm pretty sure it took several days to work it out of their systems!
