I've been swamped with different projects and blessed with a trip to visit my grandchildren so I probably didn't make this one as creative as some I've done in the past- but I'm just glad I got it done- especially since for the last three days my flash player has refused to upload it! The problem seems to have been resolved and so onward and upward. Here's the background on the title and artist:
Neal Dow (1804-1897) was an American prohibition advocate and politician who was elected president of the Maine Temperance Union in 1850 and mayor of Portland in 1851. He had a tumultuous run as mayor enforcing strict laws and dealing with riots. He served as a brigadier general in the Union Army, was wounded at the siege of Port Hudson and was later captured. He was then returned in a prisoner exchange and in 1864 retired from the military. He returned to politics and eventually ran for president on the Prohibition Party ticket. After losing the election he continued to write and speak on behalf of prohibition until his death at the age of 93.
The title comes from a quote by Hans Hoffman an abstract expressionist painter from NYC. "Art is something positive, which gives power just as food gives power. While creative science is a mental food, art is the satisfaction of the soul".
Of course I added my own little twist to the title. The picture came from the archives and my visit to the NJ Garden of Sculpture in 2013. It is a life-size replica of on of Monet's paintings.
@onewing Thanks Babs! @dibzgreasley Thank you Debs! And thank you so much for the fav! @salza Thank you Sally! @grammyn Thank you Katy! Well, yes a masterpiece- but Monet's not mine! (o;
@nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole! I don't really expect this one to make the vote off and that doesn't bother me. People have been turning out such spectacular "covers" lately. I'm glad I got it done though! It's a fun and creative challenge for me.
