@jeanniec57 My d-i-l is an avid gardener and does most of her own planting so I'm pretty sure she's not mistaken here- I don't remember the specific onion but a couple people before you said the same thing as the article- onions are in the Allium family. I've seen Allium growing too- but the stems are not as thick as these and the seed pods look rounder than these. The stems of this plant are almost as thick as your thumb and the seed pods more shaped oblong than circular. They are a bit distorted in this shot.
