@gardencat Ingredients: dark backyard, a camera on a tripod, flashlight, helpful grandfather, and one adorable granddaughter. Steps: 1) Have granddaughter strike a pose facing camera. Use flashlight to illuminate granddaughter and use automatic focus on camera to adjust sharpness. Turn off auto-focus for shooting picture. Turn off flashlight. 2) Set camera on manual at Bulb setting for shutter speed. Hold shutter open for at least 10 seconds or more depending on step 3. 3) While grandfather holds flashlight behind granddaughter, click flashlight on. Have grandfather move flashlight slowly around the outer edge of granddaughter, outlining her body from head to toe. When finished, move flashlight behind granddaughter and click off. 4) Release finger from shutter to turn off camera. In review mode, your picture should look like this one.
@olivetreeann Thanks for the info. It was the grandfather standing behind her that was the missing ingredient. I couldn’t see how you, standing at the camera, could get the effect of the light being behind her. I guess I need to find some helpers. :)
@shutterbug49 This one I remembered! Thanks Debbie! @gardencat Yes, I never do the actual light writing (although I could). The grands have so much fun doing it, I haven't the heart to take the light even once. Yes, helpers are a must unless you have a way of holding the shutter down which allows you to leave the camera running by itself without closing it.
@carole_sandford I'm unfamiliar with the product but the commercial did remind me of this shot. A fun connection to be sure.
@haskar thank you Hannah and thank you for the fav!
