Last Saturday I went for a walk at Soldiers Point and saw thousands of soldier crabs as it was low tide. I went back again a few days later with David and I will post those photos over the next few days.
This is the closest I could get to them on that day because as soon as you try to get close the move to try and get away from you.
Here is some information about soldier crabs if you are interested.
Fav. Fabulous capture. Good place for them to be - soldier crabs at Soldiers Point. They are very different to the crabs we see here; they look more like spiders than crabs.
@sangwann Yes it is appropriate they are soldiers at Soldiers Point isn't it.
@beryl Ha ha I like the idea of blueberries on legs.
@pusspup They are my favourite too, fascinating to watch. I did well to get the backs of them, as soon as I got close they scampered off at great speed. It is amazing how fast they can move. I just had to stand still to stop them going off in another direction.
They are a beautiful color of blue. We have Blue Crabs in the US but their bodies are a different shape and the blue isn't restrained to just the shell. They are not this pretty of a blue color either. But they are good to eat.
@annied I love them, this bunch were quite small
@edorreandresen @yaorenliu @quietpurplehaze @pcoulson @nigelrogers @tinley23 @boxplayer @wakelys @happysnaps Thanks, it was difficult to capture them close because as soon as you get near them they scamper off at great speed. Wait until you see tomorrow's photo, you will see why they call them an army of soldier crabs.

Thanks for the link - fascinating :)
@judithdeacon They are amazing to watch.
@4rky @lynnz @pamalama @milaniet @seattlite @mittens @louannwarren @craftymeg @sdutoit @carolmw @k9photo @denful @happypat @montserrat Thanks. I do love soldier crabs they come up at low tide to feed and then scamper back down the holes in the sand once the tide turns.
@anniesue Ha ha, maybe even Navy as they are by the sea.
