Practice makes perfect

After reading the January theme of rule of thirds I've decided to try and improve myself in this area.
I took this today and made sure the water line was lined up in the grid. My focal point was the small dark cloud and long reflection and I had to resist the urge to put this in the centre.
I think it looks ok....
Looks nice!

Love the thin ice and water patches where it hasn't frozen over. Nicely composed

Looks good to me especially the reflections in the ice.

Well I think you managed that perfectly. What a lovely, wintery shot.

You have made a good success with this shot. The rule of thirds is a useful rule, but sometimes needs breaking. Another take on this shot would be to crop the sky just above the small dark cloud that you mentioned, making the lake occupy 2/3 of the shot and giving it a panorama effect. Fav.

well done! Took me a while to understand this concept too. I like the gentle curve of the land and the flat smooth reflective pond

Seems to work well Pat - what is the location

This has worked beautifully... my art teacher at school was always talking about thirds. My mom laughs at me, as I even fold clothes and towels in thirds 🤣!

@delboy207 Thanks. It's one of two local parks near me and is a few miles out of Birmingham called Witton Lakes.

@fishers Thanks Ian for the suggestion, I wouldn't have thought of doing that. It's something I'll remember to try now.
