Eastbrook Hall Bradford an a very grey day,
Eastbrook Hall, formerly the ‘Methodist Cathedral of the North’, was opened in 1904. By the 1980s, it sat abandoned and a major fire in 1996 left it derelict, burnt out and roofless.
The Prince’s Regeneration Trust became involved in 2002 and worked with local stakeholders
to restore the building to its former glory. During the restoration, a great deal of beautiful stained glass was found and this was saved and restored, The completed redevelopment of Eastbrook Hall includes apartments arranged around a central courtyard with parking at the lower level. Retail and commercial spaces have been created while still retaining the stunning Grade II Listed facades – which have been restored with minimal alterations. The extensive and detailed restoration work has seen this historic building returned to its former architectural glory while ensuring its future as a commercial and residential building for generations to come. In November 2008, the regenerated building was officially opened by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.
They obviously did a tremendous amount of work to restore what is now a beautiful structure. Looks like it might be a copper dome? So glad that they salvaged and displayed the stained glass.
@stray_shooter Thank you for your great comment, They have made a wonderful job of if the roof is grey slate as original, didn't include/frame the ground floor in this shoot as it has modern retail units, street furniture and people spoiling the overall effect, lol:)
@onewing Thanks Babs lots of beautiful symmetry in the building design unfortunately lots of modern street furniture at the lower level to spoil the shot:)
Great framing Peter, one would never guess what is below.. it is always good to hear of beautiful architecture, such as this, being given a second chance. Even though the interior has given way to modern life.
the stained glass is a definite bonus and so typical of the North.
A fine image of a beautiful building
