Well, I planned to do a 'filler' today because it was wet and miserable.
Ruby and I were on our second walk of the day...playing 'chase the ball' on the local park....Ruby got a little too excited and went off track.....I had to shout her back and she leapt over a small bank (at full speed) to get back to me ...as she landed she skidded on the wet grass bank and ended up on the tarmac path in a heap.
I shouted at her for going off track and then noticed that she had cut her lip and grazed both her front legs. The left leg was quite a deep cut and after cleaning it and giving it a close inspection we decided it needed veterinary care.
Ruby is now on anti inflammatory painkillers and some antibiotic's to ensure no infection gets into the wound !!
This image is shot in the evening as she lays on the couch beside me, feeling a little sorry for herself .....not the best of images as the flash fired and made the image a bit too bright, but it did capture the nasty wound !
I feel a bit guilty as she was under my control,, but what do you do , whippets need to run and play !
Milly sends her love and says it's ok...us doughnut greyhound whippet types are always doing ourselves mischief! I've lost count phil of the number of injuries ours have had...speed and obstacles don't mix! Cuts and bruises you can deal with, Milly broke her leg when she was 9 months old and it took 9 months to heal! Dasher broke her neck! Both survived but it makes you nervous when they get up to full pelt again!! Hope she feels better soon x
Just like a kid; you can be right next to them and they can get into something you didn't even realize was dangerous. I'm sure she has learned her lesson. (not!)
Poor Ruby! Monty says sorry to hear that but it's the price you pay for a good lay sometimes. He's had to do a dramatic comedy limp on more than one occasion to avoid a good telling off. At least Ruby is light enough to be carried home. Those anti-inflammatory painkillers for dogs are magic. Glad you didn't show us the scary bill!!
I had to laugh at Monty's typing mistake there !!! I bet you felt guilty about giving her a telling off but I think you do that when you are worried too !! Poor Ruby but she is only a teenager still so bound to get into mischief now & again! It looks quite sore but that medicine will soon put her right ...a day by the fire resting I think !!
Sorry for the group reply, thanks everyone for your kind words regarding Ruby. She's a tough little girl, this morning as we got ready for our walk she was frisky and playful and dropped her 'toy bone' at my feet as I got her lead out !!! I told her 'no way young are you galloping around the field with a poorly leg !!' ...at which point she got her eyes out ....I still didn't run her though !
Good grief I hope she's OK. Tinker ran through a barbed wire fence yesterday and I thought she had decapitated herself! She just got up and ran on as if nothing had happened! Lucky girl.
