Barclays People by phil_howcroft

Barclays People

This is shot from the 'other side of the road' opposite a posh Barclays Bank, bank (two banks next to each other in my narrative, but it kind of makes sense Barclays Bank, bank !!!)

It's a big glass fronted building and was easy to shoot a quick candid scene. The image has turned out quite surreal because (a) people inside the bank merge with people outside the bank because of the glass and (b) old buildings are reflected into the modern bank frontage

I converted to black and white and high contrast to make the effect more errrr....effective (an effect and effective rather too close there in my narrative)

Maybe the two central characters, the young girl and he tall man should have been on the thirds for more impact, but it was a candid grab shot and I don't really concentrate on composition when shooting like this
Great reflection

That is a very cleve shot Phil ! There are actually a lot of people in that photo !! Seven main characters & many shadows of people on the right & also on the left.. funny how the outside ones are stronger than the ones you were actually snapping inside! The girl on the right looks very good, I like the way she is standing & you have caught her very clearly !!

It's an excellent candid, Phil! The couple merged with the wonderful reflections do make it surreal and your black and white is great! It's crisp with true blacks in the shadows and whites in the highlights! Well done!

Fantastic candid Phil. B&W is such a good choice too

Very neat shot Phil, interesting and full of action. Like the contrasts of old new, in out and the shades. Constance-esque.

What a very clever idea.....amazing how a camera makes one look at everyday things differently!

Intriguing! I love the slightly puzzling aspect to this - who and what belongs where. It makes one really stop and look and concentrate on a little moment in time. Clever!

This is so cool. Love all the different layers of reflection and action.

I love shots like this - you can spend ages trying to work out who's doing what and where!

@marlboromaam thanks Maggie, glad you like the monochrome conversion, i tried to get the image quite contrasty
April 6th, 2012
love the mixed image effect Phil - looks great! B&W suits it well, colour would've been too distracting!

Great shot, Phil. I like that the 2 main people are central because you focus on them first and then start to unravel all the reflections.

@sparkle thanks juliette, i did think of doing selective colouring / colour popping on the barclays sign (light blue)
April 7th, 2012
@anron thanks anita, there's a lot to unravel !

Love the merger of the "ins" and the "outs" Not even sure which is which. Looks very other-worldly.

@allie912 thanks allison, it is difficult to decide the ins and outs !!
