This is breaking the rules of photography.....I was struggling for a shot and the light was fading fast. I put the flower on the windowsill in the lounge, lay down low, pointed the camera upwards and used the on board flash.
The background is the grey sky through the window.
Turned out quite nice
Strange day, today. Applied for a couple of jobs online and I went for my 'job seekers' interview. A right complicated process. I had an appointment at the Job Centre .... the man said my claim might be void because I'm self employed....I said I work under 'service industry rules' HMRC IR35 regulations...and all my income is subject to PAYE ...so I am !! He agreed I was, but told me I had to fill 2 more more forms in ! Strange ...both forms asked the same questions and both forms asked similar questions to what I answered online and it took me over an hour to fill them in at night !
Oh and they have security guards in the job centre ...G4S ...the company who tried to do the Olympics !
I said to the man in the job centre ..This is my first time ever unemployed ...34 years ....he sympathised and said I was better than the 50 bus drivers with loads of years experience he had to sort out (a local bus company had gone bust ...whatever happened to corporation buses) !!!
Oh and I saw a 'jobseeker' who used to work at Jessops Camera shop...he sold me a zoom lens a few years ago !
Well you have ha a day Phil & what a strange experience going to the job centre...security guards , what next! Perhaps folk get so worked up answering repetitive questions they go berserk!!! Do hope something turns up that is just perfect for you...a pretty skilled job so hopefully not with out work too long!!!
A bright & vivid shot among the gloom of a cold January day!!!
So sorry to hear of your job loss. My son-in-law was dismissed as head chef after 8 years (the owner wanted to pay less) and my daughter who is a pastry chef at the same establishment will be leaving at the end of the month after 13 years. Tough times.
what a day Phil...sounds like you kept your head about you though - never had to do it myself yet, but pals have told me it's a slightly surreal experience! I'm positive something will come up for you sometime soon
Phil, just remember 'don't let the b----rs get you down'! You will get there in the end. A beautiful shot, amaryllises (?) are amazing bulbs aren't they!
Flipping heck - good job you know the rules. Last time I signed on I was a student (in the good old days when you could) and I remember hardly any forms. I should point out that most years I worked in the summer but by 1986 employers were taking 'proper unemployed ' rather than students on summer hols. And anyway we fancied a few weeks off before starting PhDs. It amazed me how easy it was. No longer apparently. I'm trying to do some ether admin at the moment though and they keep sending me exactly the same 'change of circumstances' form. Last time I put in our previous address and new address. Now I don't know if I'm supposed to put our current address or what (we've been here 15 years!) I'm sure it won't be long - you've loads of desirable experience (shame abou the buses - hope its not the number 57)
@judithg thanks judith, it's an independent bus company, rather than Nottingham City Transport that's gone bust ...would you believe i got a form through the post today to fill in ....exactly the same form that i filled in on monday night !
@phil_howcroft Yes I would! And they'll be wanting your documents for money laundering purposes next! Of a list of nine things we could only find one - we need to get a firearms license just so we can open an ISA!
@judithg judith , when i registered in person on monday they asked me for id and "proof or previous work" ....the text message confirming the appointment (yes a text message) said bring your CV and company registration docs. When I got there I had no 'id' and 'proof of previous work',,,so i went back next day with my passport and P60..."leave it with us and we'll get back to you" was the response i got when i went to the job centre ..i said "it's my passport i'm not leaving it here"...so they sorted me out straight away !
Sorry I've been out of touch Phil. Love the photo and share your frustration. Our son in USA is going through the same maddening process. Keep photographing - as our son does! God bless
Jeez Phil thats hard work. Job centres are totally demoralising places to visit, and its unlikely theyll help you find another job. Good to see your keeping your chin up - taking gorgeous pics like this one will keep you in the positive frame of mind! p.s. rules are made to be broken...
