I went to my mum's on Friday, took her shopping, cooked her a meal, helped her do a bit of de-cluttering, stayed overnight and went to the Football on Saturday.
This is Bradshaw Brook, in the Rigby's, Bradshaw, Bolton.
A favourite playground when I was a lad. In fact we had to walk across the bridge over the river on the way to junior school. Me and my mates used to 'dare' each other to walk on the ledge on the outside of the bridge hanging onto the rail ....we used to walk through the woods on our own to school ...youngsters aged 6 to 11 .... we even used to walk to cubs through the woods on our own in the dark winters nights. It would never have been heard of nowadays.
The river was never that clean in the 60's, the bleach works upstream used to pump some dodgy chemicals into the river !
Beautiful landscape Phil. Like you we walked everywhere without an escort, and I think we were better for it...there was certainly no such thing as childhood obesity
Your commentary is fascinating, describing both the good and the bad of the "Good Old Days" The picture is a beauty. It really lends itself to the landscape (horizontal) mode.
Oh blimey - the pros and cons of the sixties. I've just been talking to Pat about playing on railway lines. The demise of the bleach works sounds like a good thing.
