We went into Nottingham today shopping. We had a nice meal in our fave French restaurant, I bought a trendy T-shirt, Jane bought a spring North Face coat and I took a few street shots. Oh and I got a few shots from the top of the 58 bus.
I probably got a few days worth of 365 shots, but posting 'the best of them' is probably against the spirit of 365.
There was a street protest gathered outside the Brian Clough statue, protesting against the "bedroom tax".
Brian Clough's statue has appeared on my 365 a couple of times before.
Someone plonked a placard over Brian Clough's shoulder. Cloughie often described himself a 'socialist' ....he always liked left wingers in his team !! (footie joke there) ....so maybe he would have been proud to carry the placard.
People described Cloughie as the greatest manager England never had. His teams played great football and he made his players have total respect for referees and the rules of the game. Perhaps he would not be thought of as the most 'pc' of managers nowadays, but his heyday was the 70's when things were different.
I like the reds of the placard against the stone buildings. Shot with a long zoom and difficult to get Cloughie's face because of how the placard is positioned
He is certainly ringing his hands in despair & not surprised....we better not get onto politics I might say something I regret!!!!
Cloughie was a great character & the world is a less colourful place for not having him around...I remember him well!!
I will leave it to you to explain 'the bedroom tax''!!!! LOL!
@happypat thanks Pat, we don't do politics on 365......this is just a pic of a football legend ......my grandad said don't talk politics or religion with your friends ....because it's a sure way to lose them !
As for the meal....we went to the restaurant the weekend I was "off shored"......today was a treat to celebrate getting back to work :)
My mum wrote a letter to Cloughie congratulating him on whacking that yobbo round the tabs (theres some nice Nottingham slang). She got a very nice letter in reply. Not sure I have it :( I'm sure he'd have had something to say about this latest Tory business.
@anron cheers anita...i remember cloughie clipping the guy round his 'tabs' (isn't tabs a gr8 word !!!) ...I'm sure he'd have something appropriate to say on the subject
Well I tried to read about the bedroom tax on the link you provided but it made my head swim. Suffice it to say, it is always best for government to stay out of the bedroom!
Well it's a great pic whatever your thoughts on the bedroom tax! His handling of Justin Fashanu wasn't his finest hour was it though? Sounds like a fun day and hope today (Monday) has been a very good day!
@judithg thanks judith, i tried to be 'neutral' in my narrative of bedroom tax.....it doesn't do to air political views on 365 .....i think we discussed the cloughie / justin situation on my last cloughie pic...i agree it wasn't his finest hour ... even in 2013 gay footballers won't 'come out' ....it's a sad reflection of the football culture, more so what happens on the terrace as opposed to what happens in the dressing room and back room
