Not often you can get a shot like this ...Trent Bridge from the river
Nottingham's famous Trent Bridge, shot from the middle of the River Trent.
We went to on one of Jane's friends 50th birthday party today.....an 'afternoon tea' river cruise to celebrate Wendy's birthday.
It was a very nice afternoon. We were meant to cruise north east up the river across the Nottinghamshire countryside, but when we got through the first lock, the captain announced we would be turning round because they forgot the jam for the scones !
We returned to the quayside and picked up the jam and then travelled south west, which I thought was better, because the scenery was more 'urban river' and we got to float under Trent Bridge and beside the City Ground.
Things you can see in the photo:
The River Trent
Trent Bridge
The City Ground ...Home Of Nottingham Forest (right hand side of frame)
One our our City Buses crossing the bridge
Lady Bay Bridge (in the distance)
A Notts County Floodlight (left hand side of frame)
One fact you might not know - the river is the dividing line that separates the City Of Nottingham from the County Of Nottinghamshire ....even stranger...
Nottingham Forest play football at the City Ground, which is in the County !
Notts County play football at the County Ground, which is in the City !
Instant there something important about the Sheriff of Nottingham? It is a very wide river! Imagine the consternation when they found they had left the raspberry jam behind!!
@judithg a very civilised idea Judith...although the cruise company literature also 'pushes' hen and stag night bookings too !
@swilde cheers sue. it is a beautiful bridge, you Aussies have probably heard of it because test matches (cricket) are played at Trent Bridge (just out of shot)
The role of the Sheriff in welcoming visitors to the city is often less formal than the Lord Mayor's. The Sheriff has an ambassadorial role which is especially relevant to the promotion of Nottingham's historic associations and links with the legends of Robin Hood.
The current Sheriff of Nottingham is Councillor Ian Malcolm
