On the sunny side of the street by phil_howcroft

On the sunny side of the street

shot and edited "in phone"

On one side of the street a shiny modern building housing a "Sainsburys Local" and new apartments

If I turn through 180 degrees I see a derelict "Co-op local" ....the plot up for sale.

What does that say about retailing in the UK. Perhaps it says nothing, but surely the Co-op is the spiritual home of grocery shopping.

Perhaps I am too philosophical, too idealistic.

Great collage

Great to contrast these two differing sides of the street. Such a shame, we have a Coop near us which is doing very well. We do most of our shopping there.

It so sad that more don't support our small local stores ... & the huge mega stores/multinationals take over. As said above the contrast is great Phil :p

Nice comp Phil , I think the high street is doomed , internet sites like amazon and others to numirus to mention will slowly close it down any that don't embrace online shopping will be the first to go( even the banks are shedding jobs now due to online banking ) ..our children will have a different high street than we have when they are our ages ,.. Sad really

Well, builders need something to keep them busy I suppose. Nice contrast.

Poor CoOp - we have a nice busy refurbished one near us though :0)

Great shot, telling a sad but all too common story.

Great contrast, well spotted.

Nice social commentary. If things work there they way they work here, the "new shiny" has raised property value and thus taxes, and suddenly the co-op can't afford to stay afloat.
