Contre Jour Nottingham

Contre Jour Nottingham

Nottingham City Centre on a winters morning, with low sunlight creating a contre jour scene

Converted in GIMP, via a G'MIC Dynamic Range Filter, then a desaturate, followed by a contrast adjustment, crop and straighten.

At first I thought I'd blown out a little bit of the shot with the man in the centre of the frame, but close inspection shows he is smoking a cigarette and a little cloud of dirty smoke is engulfing his face.

The street lighs are not lit, it is the sun that is making the scene look like they are lit up

I don't know if I have gone a little too far with the contrast and deep blacks
Awesome shot

You can't see faces but that doesn't matter in a good area like this! The ground is so white, it must be pale to start off with. Makes super contrasts!

Love this street scene and the almost silhouette effect...just enough light on the people to give the image some life. I just love all the activity and atmosphere Phil. Well done...including the smoking man. Fun to find those things after processing. fav for me

The b&w works very well here, Phil. A beautiful scene of a busy morning.
