The view from under the trees

This gentleman was a bit of a loner, sitting in the shade under the trees listening to the Brass Band playing from the bandstand at Nottingham arboretum.

I've gone a bit adventurous in my processing.

I faffed around in Rawtherapee to recover some highlights from the bright sun on the bandstand, added some tone mapping and then added a monochrome film emulation of an Ilford HP5 film, but didn't go 100% mono leaving some colour tints.

I love it! I'm just wondering where his other leg is though!

The processing and subject gives it a 50's feel. Great to listen to live music like this. At a second look it also feels a little Hitchcock-esque!

Love this shot, Phil. Looks like the band is playing solely for him.

Well perhaps he doesn't want to risk anybody blocking his view! Haven't heard a good brass band in ages.
