The urban fisherman by phil_howcroft

The urban fisherman

Spotted on my lunchtime walk, in Vernon Park, Basford. A fisherman all wrapped up waiting for a bite in the lake.

Edited in GIMP, using the G'MIC Black and white filter with maximum use of the pseudo grey slider bar.

To me, this shot, with all the horizontals and verticals, somehow conveys what I see as the boredom of fishing! I like your title too!

I don't see a rod, Phil. Anywhere I don't the see the fun of it when the fisherman just sits there and waits for the fish to get itself caught. Your shot is beautiful and it works well in mono. Well done.

Great shot. Looks so peaceful - wonder what's going through his mind?

He looks set to stay until he catches something!

He looks quite lonesome perched at the end of the board line. Illustrates the solitary nature of the past time, which is I think what the fishermen enjoy.

Love the composition, it underlines the solitary nature of angling. The dominance of mid greys is just right to set the weather scene.
