This a shot from Monday night when we had a model evening at Arnold and District Camera Club.
This is Paulette a friend of Gary, (see previous photo), shot using Gary's studio lights.
Edited in Rawtherapee and then sent to GIMP in order to get the spot white balance correct . for some reason Rawtherapee didn't make much difference when spot white balancing . The background canvas was white but had a blue tint to it on the photo and I tried to correct in rawtherepee but it didn't seem to effect it.
These shots are a lot easier than you think. With studio flash you dial in your ISO (usually ISO 100) and set an aperture and shutter speed that will give you a sharp image and allow you to hand hold the camera ( f7.1 and 1/80th of a second in this case). Then you compose the shot and shoot :)
Hope you like this shot. Worth viewing 'large' if you can spare a couple of extra clicks .
Lovely portrait, Phil.
I'm also interested in your WB problem. By 'spot' white balance, do you mean the WB setting you used with the studio lighting? It's not a term I've heard before.
@dulciknit alison, the spot white balance is a technique in post processing. you select a bit of the picture that you know was white and click it with the pipette tool . the software then adjusts all other pixels knowing that the area you clicked was white
