100 Strangers : No. 60 : Rachel

My third steampunk in a row taking me to number 60 in my 100 strangers series.

This is Rachel who I met at last weeks Steampunk Market in Sneinton Nottingham.

I was very tempted to post a full length shot (from purple boots to hat) of Rachel, but once I edited this shot and saw the fine detail brought out in Rachels coat from the Raw image file, I had to share the traditional head and shoulders style shot.

Rachel is from Nottingham and was running a stall at the market that was selling raffle tickets for "punk 4 the homeless" an organisation who are working to "raise awareness and money for Casa Alianza, a homeless charity for street children in Latin America"

Rachel was on her stall when I approached her for a photo and took a few pics of her at her stall. When I looked at the pics on my camera, they were lovely pics of Rachel, but the background was rather cluttered, so I asked Rachel if she would move to the wall where I photographed my previous stranger (Stephen).

As we walked to the wall, I asked Rachel how long she had been a Steampunk. Rachel told me she had been a steampunk for a while and used to be a punk back in the day.

"I used to get beat up for having hair like this when I was a punk" said Rachel

I was quite shocked when Rachel told me that !

"Now it's OK to have hair like this though" said Rachel

I took a few shots against the wall (including the full length one which I will post a link to in the comments) .

After the photos, i walked back to the stall with Rachel and we spoke about punk music from back in the day (I quite liked punk music back in the day as it was a refreshing change from the Disco sound that dominated the music scene back in the mid to late 70's)

I was surprised when Rachel told me she was into Rockabilly back then but a quick google search shows that Rockabilly was very influential in the emergence of Punk music)

I posted the full length portrait on Facebook and it was really popular with Rachel and her friends.

Thank you for being stranger number 60 in my series Rachel.

Posed so well against that wall. These flattering portraits are not so easy as you make them seem.

Hard to imagine her a 'punk' now. She looks very cute and well kept in no fancy cloths. As usual I loved reading your narrative. Another great portrait shot. Fav. Wish I had some of your skills in portrait shots.
