The Nottingham Chinese community held an event to celebrated the Chinese New Year in Nottingham on Saturday afternoon
The year of The Rooster.
An event of music, song, dance and various cultural stalls all taking place in Nottingham's Market Square.
This is where I met Yuezhao.
Li Yuezhao (you say the surname first) was running a stall. A stall where members of the public were doing keepie uppies with a little feathered toy. Free to enter, just for fun , no winners or loser's. Quite a popular stall too as members of the Nottingham puplic were keen to show off their football skills, even if there was no football !
I asked Yuezhao for a photo and explained my project, My first few shots were using the council house as a backdrop (similar to Jan in stranger 66) , but Yuezhao explained he was pointing in the wrong direction as it was not a direction that was considered lucky to point in the direction I asked him to stand.
So we used the backdrop of the Natwest Bank and Wetherspoons for Yuezhao photos.
Yuezhao is a student and has been in Nottingham for four years. He is studying Electronic and Electrical Engineering.
I asked Yuezhao where he came from in China. He told me the name of his town and explained it was in the South East of China and the nearest city I would have know would be Shanghai. He asked me if I was local and I said I had lived in Nottingham for almost forty years, but came from Bolton originally.
Yuezhao asked me if I wanted a go at Keepie Uppie, he would hold my camera as I did it. I used to be good at Keepie Uppies but decided against doing it :)
I have an excellent colour image of this shot but there are some distracting colours in the background (the new purple branding of the Nat West and some red signs in the scaffolding near Wetherspoons), so I went for a mono instead.
Hope you like this I I hope Yuezhao likes it too
Oh and the event in the market square was really good and I got some excellent shots too )
