This is my second stranger picture from the Em-Con Cosplay event at Nottingham Arena on Saturday.
As I stood outside the entrance to the arena on Bolero Square I noticed Tayla and Rae making some last minute adjustments to their costumes prior to entering the arena. Rae was adjusting her green hair.
I approached them both explaining I was an amateur photographer doing a project on street photography / strangers.
At the time of the photograph the square was bathed in some bright sunlight, so I asked Tayla and Rae to stand in front of a parked trailer (I think it had been used to transport some Daleks to the arena) .
I had to ask Tayla and Rae what characters they were dressed as. Tayla is Harley Quinn and Rae is The Joker.
I had to google Harley Quinn and according to Wikepedia, Harley Quinn (Harleen Frances Quinzel) is a fictional super villain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character first appeared in Batman: The Animated Series in September 1992. Harley Quinn is the frequent accomplice and lover of the Joker, whom she met while working as a psychologist at Gotham City's Arkham Asylum, where the Joker was a patient. Her name is a play on the name "Harlequin", a character which originated in the commedia dell'arte. I think most people know who the Joker is . The Joker is portrayed as a criminal mastermind and Batman's nemesis.
Tayla and Rae had travelled from Lincolnshire to attend the event.
I am sure you will agree that Tayla and Rae look fabulous in their outfits, with great attention to detail.
I could have done with the background truck door being a bit wider, so I had a totally black background, but the silver surrounds of the truck frame do add a bit of a frame and act as stoppers.
I usually edit my photos in Darktable, but I used Rawtherapee for this shot as I wanted to retain a bit of grain in the photo to give the image a slightly urban gritty edge to help portray the villain side of the two young ladies.
I took several images and did some in mono and some full length portraits. I was really tempted to post a mono shot but my wife said I had to do colour as it was the colour that made the image and I would lose those lovely reds and Rae's fabulous green hair.
Tayla and Rae have been in touch via email and I sent a selection of photos and edits to them.
I got a nice email back from Rae which read "Thank you, the pictures are amazing and well edited. Keep it up, hope you had a good time too."
So that was a nice conclusion to my 80th stranger shot.
