This is my first studio style shot with my Sony Alpha 6000.
It was with the 16-50mm OSS kit lens (which seems to have done quite a decent job).
In fact more than a good job, an excellent job in my eyes.
Shooting with studio lights is quite straight forward. You put a remote trigger on your camera hot shoe which will trigger the studio flash lights when you press the shutter.
You set your camera at "manual", set your aperture to whatever your like and set your shutter speed to whatever you like (within reason) , spot focus on the eyes and hey presto you get a shot like this.
