We went to the Sneinton festival today.
I went to photograph Mellonie Page and the Mellonie Page Band, who were performing at the event. Mellonie, who I met last year had asked if I could take some pictures of her band.
Sneinton is an inner city area of Nottingham and I knew there would be an eclectic and diverse selection of people at the event and therefore a good possibility of adding to my strangers project.
I;d seen Helen (Ellie) and Grizz when we first entered the park and thought they would make great strangers.
I approached them later in the afternoon and as soon as I explained the project they were up for a photoshoot.
I'd earmarked a wall as a good backdrop but before I asked them to stand by the wall I had a little chat.
I asked if I could photograph them as a couple , adding a caveat "are you a couple?" . Grizz laughed and said "you could say that" , explaining they had been together for a long time and were married.
I asked Grizz about his skateboard and he said he'd been a skateboarder for ages, but wasnn't really that good at it ! Grizz had lived in Sneinton most of his life.
I asked about their dog . Ellie told me his name was Riddick and they thought he was a cross between a Labrador, Alsatian and husky dog. He was a friendly dog and I tickled his ears which he quite liked !
Ellie told me they would probably take Riddick down to the River Trent later for a swim as it was a hot day and he was getting a little hot.
We made our way over to the fabulous wall and I took several shots.
Followers will know i love a mono photo, but I think this had to be in colour because there are some lovely colours on Grizz's skateboard and Ellie's outfit is worthy of being showed in colour.
Later in the afternoon I saw Riddick the dog playing on the skateboard, barking and pushing it along with his nose and paws .
I edited the photo in Rawtherapee and GIMP .
Thanks for being strangers number s 134 Ellie, Griz and Riddick
