I was loitering around Hockley in Nottingham this morning looking for my first stranger of 2019. I saw Khadine who was outside the shop she works at , checking the window displays.
Khadine had a friendly face and smile, so I decided to approach her for a stranger shot.
Khadine agreed straight away when I explained about the 100 strangers project.
I asked her to stand by the window as I knew the colours of the window display would make a nice background with an aperture of f3.2.
Khadine has worked at the shop for several years and when not working looks after her 12 year old daughter.
The shop "Ice Nine" sits in the heart of Hockley and is described as Nottingham's premier independent store for Silver Jewellery, Body Jewellery, Alternative Clothing and Jewellery, Smoking Paraphernalia, Kitsch Giftware and Ethnic Goods
There's a bit of a back story to the shop. Back in 1983 , my wife bought a dress from the shop and while coming out of the shop bumped into a former work colleague of hers , who invited Jane to her 21st party at her flat. It was at the said party that I met Jane. So if Jane hadn't bought that dress at that shop then we might never have met !
Anyway back on to the stranger story, Khadine was impressed with my Sony A6000 camera, saying she likes the arts and was pleased I was trying to create some art on a dull winter morning.
I asked Khadine where her name originates from and she told me it was a perfume from Yardley. It's quite a popular ladies name for people born in the 1970's. I did a quick google and Khadine was released in 1967 . Khadine was marketed as an Arabic influenced fragrance named after a fictional character of a harem dwelling princess.
The perfume was discontinued in the early 1980's . Opening Notes associated with the perfume are Incense, iris, and violet. Middle notes: Carnation, lily-of-the-valley, and galbanum. Base notes: Sandalwood and musk. I am sure a bottle of Khadine would sit well in Khadine's shop
I found the info' about the perfume from

Khadine was a great stranger and despite a grey day with dull light, I've got catchlights and good skin tones. I had to bump up the ISO a little higher than I normally would
Thanks for being stranger 153 Khadine, I hope you like the picture and story.
