Followers will know that I have acquired several vintage lenses over the last few months. Visits to charity shops and bric a brac shops have been quite successful.
I do like a nifty fifty and these are my vintage nifty fifties.
From left to right....
Olympus Zuiko Auto-S 50mm f1.8 : This started life on my old Olympus OM20 film SLR camera in about 1981. Connects to my Sony A6000 via Olympus to Nex Adapter. Pictures have a nice warm tone and are pin sharp.
Yashica ML 50mm f1.7. Found in a bric a brac shop. Came bundled with 2 other Yahshica lenses , 2 Yashica film SLR bodies , old tripod, mini tripod. Excellent images, top class, glass is Carl Zeiss Jena .
Pentacon 50mm f1.8 ; Bought at local charity shop, M42 mount to Sony A6000. Not tested yet
Pentax M SMC 60mm f1.7 : Bought as a bundle at a charity shop. Bundle included Pentax SMC 28mm wide angle, Pentax SLR film body , film flash and a 3rd party zoom lens. Cracking 50mm prime, I've used it on the street and even shot strangers with it.
I actually have another 4 nifty fifties ! My Canon 50mm f1.8, My Sony 50mm F1.8 and two of my late fathers Leica lenses (one of which is compatible with my Sony A6000 and I posted some pics on here last summer)
So my grand total of working nifty fifties is SEVEN !!!
@quietpurplehaze thanks Haze, my knowledge is all from what I've found on the web, I am surprised how much I now know , from the types of coatings they use to where and whe they were built . i think my fave to date is the Russian Helios (not shown here as it is 58mm and cost me £7-50) !
Wow, so many lenses with almost equal f lengths. I wonder what makes you select one lens instead of the others each time you want to take some shots. I would get completely mixed up in such circumstances. Love your shot especially the neat reflections.
Kit envy!!!! I've had the Yash and still got the Pentax M (such well built lenses) but alas I have missed the rest! Can't beat a nifty fifty... such a natural angle of view, come with wide apertures and relatively cheap. Nicely presented to show them off. Fav
PS I recently bought a Panasonic DC-G9 with a rather fine Leica 12-60mm lens. Dilemma: should I also get a 25mm (nifty-50 equiv) Lumix lens? I'm unlikely to find one in a charity shop but plenty of used ones available from the specialists. The combo would feel nicey weighted and good in the hand. Hmmmm? Yes! you have talked me into it! :-)
