I am pleased to introduce stranger 177, Ope.
Every summer Nottingham transforms the market square into a beach. There is a man made beach , paddling pool , funfair rides, side stalls , slot machines, restaurants and bars. In effect the market square becomes a seaside resort.
As we walked by the beach towards our bus stop, I noticed Ope and her family sat on the steps of the council house by the Left Lion. They were waving and taking pictures of other family members who were on the funfair rides.
I was struck by Ope’s lovely green outfit and her elegant stature. She looked very photogenic and I thought she would be a great stranger.
So I approached the family and introduced myself. Ope didn’t seem too sure what I was asking, but Victor one of the gentlemen in the party explained what I wanted. As soon as Ope realised what I wanted she smiled and her face lit up.
I took a few shots and asked her to look in various directions.
I showed the pics on my camera to the party and gave Victor one of my cards, telling him I would send them some pics if they contacted me.
By the time we got to the bus stop , I’d received an email from Victor. I replied straight away saying I would email some pics later that evening. My wife said make sure you do it as soon as possible as they are lovely photos. I sent the photos that night.
I received a really nice email this morning from Victor, which read as follows….
“Hi Phil ,
Thanks so much for this beauty. Ope loves these so so much and sends her deepest thanks .
Can we do a narrative or story line on this at some point ! Could be a best seller , given that Ope just turned 77 , six days after you took the pictures!
I’m open to your great ideas
Victor”
What a lovely email that was and it is really nice when your photography spreads a little happiness to others.
